About

Troop 405 is sponsored by Saint Matthew Catholic Church, Durham, North Carolina and the Catholic Diocese of Raleigh. We proudly serve the northern Durham and Orange county areas!

We are a smaller troop with a current roster sitting around twenty boys, ranging in ages 10 through 17. A smaller troop size allows for more quality time for the scouts to mingle, learn from one another, and become friends.  We are a very open and welcoming troop.  A smaller troop size also allows the adult volunteers to dedicate time with individual scouts to help promote advancement and to encourage them to pursue their goals, both during meetings and outside of scouting activities.

Our Scouts come from Durham, Hillsborough, and Bahama.  If you are interested in scouting, or just curious as to what we do, feel free to contact us or simply come to a meeting.  We meet Monday nights from 7 to 8 pm in the Parish Hall of the church.

An important part of scouting is service to the community, and we have helped place flags on veterans’ graves, volunteered at the TROSA Thrift Store, worked with the Food Bank of North Carolina, and helped Keep Durham Beautiful by planting trees, picking up litter, and cleaning up after the Durham holiday parade!

Our troop has a high Eagle rate thanks to volunteers who are very involved with assisting the boys as they learn skills, earn merit badges, and practice respect for each other, the community, nature, and the environment.

Come be a part of something fun, and don’t forget to bring your hammock for camping!
