About Troop 405

Troop 405, sponsored by Saint Matthew Catholic Church, Durham, North Carolina and the Catholic Diocese of Raleigh. We proudly serve the northern Durham and Orange county areas!

We are a unique because we are a smaller troop with current roster sitting around fourteen boys, ranging in ages 10 through 17. This allows for more quality time amongst scouts and time spent with individual scouts and their projects.

Our Scouts attend schools in both Durham and Orange County, including Northern High School, Riverside, Durham School of the Arts, Orange High School, Voyager, Durham Academy and others.

An important part of scouting is service to the community, and we have helped place flags on veterans’ graves, volunteered at the TROSA Thrift Store, worked with the Food Bank of North Carolina, and helped Keep Durham Beautiful by cleaning up after the holiday parade!

Our troop has a high Eagle rate thanks to volunteers who are very involved with assisting the boys as they learn skills, earn merit badges, and practice respect for each other, the community, nature and the environment.

We challenge any boy to have more fun than the adults through our activities and summer camp adventures. Any and all are welcome in our troop. Come be a part of something fun, and don’t forget to bring your hammock for camping!

Troop Meetings:

Our meetings take place on the second and fourth Monday of every month at 7 pm at St. Matthew’s Church (1001 Mason Rd, Durham, NC 27712).

Of course, we also do activities like camping and hiking (this is Scouts, after all), as well as rock climbing, cycling, swimming, and geocaching at least once a month.

Recent merit badges we have completed as a Troop include Citizenship in the Community, Fish and Wildlife Management, Engineering, Space Exploration, Law, Chemistry, Public Speaking, and Chess.
